Teaching
Washington University's
fellowship programs in surgical critical care and anesthesiology critical
care offer multidisciplinary training at one of the nation's leading academic
medical centers. The 12-month programs are dedicated to preparing outstanding
surgeons and anesthesiologists for rewarding careers in critical care medicine.
Surgeons in the Section of Acute
and Critical Care Surgery also train general surgery residents, anesthesiology
residents, emergency medicine residents and trainees from other disciplines
in multiprofessional critical care during their rotations through the Surgical
Intensive Care Unit. General surgical and emergency medicine residents' rotations
include trauma care, for which Barnes-Jewish Hospital has been designated
as a Level I Trauma Center by the State of Missouri and is the only St. Louis
area hospital to earn Level I verification by the American College of Surgeons
(ACS).
